Nov.6--KUEHNE + Nagel has started managing a range of services for spare parts logistics on behalf of BMW Group and will implement a new structure for the car manufacturer's central distribution centre (CDC) in Bavaria, Germany.
From the CDC, BMW Group provides parts to its regional distribution centres worldwide, which in turn ensure delivery to local authorised BMW dealers in individual countries.
Kuehne + Nagel will gradually take over operations at three CDCs located in Lower Bavaria starting in November. In addition to goods receiving activities, the control and packing of spare parts are included in the scope of service. Furthermore, Kuehne + Nagel will also be responsible for storage, commissioning and outgoing goods.
"This new contract with BMW Group underlines our comprehensive expertise, especially within the complex area of spare parts logistics," said Jens Wollesen, who is a member of the management board of the German Kuehne + Nagel organisation, responsible for Contract Logistics.
