Kalmar has two orders for automatic stacking cranes for LAs TraPac

Jun.12--EXPANDING TraPac automated terminal in Los Angeles has given Finland's Cargotec unit, Kalmar, orders for two new fifth generation automatic stacking cranes (ASC).

The cranes will join a fleet of 27 Kalmar auto-stackers and 28 Kalmar automated straddle carriers managed by the Kalmar TLS equipment control system.

The new ASCs will be delivered in 2016 and they are expected to be commissioned by the end of 2016.

"Our partnership with TraPac has led to the development of the fifth generation Kalmar ASC," said Kalmar vice president Troy Thompson.

"The new crane will be lighter and more efficient, it uses less energy and is easier to maintain," he said.

Kalmar and TraPac partnered about four years ago when TraPac decided to modernise the terminal and introduce automated operations among the first terminals in the world.
