Sep.30--Consumer confidence in Portugal rose to its highest level in eight years in September, reflecting a more optimistic view of the country's economic future, statistics authority said Monday.
"The consumer confidence indicator slightly increased in September, reaching a maximum since October 2006 and resuming the pronounced upward trend observed since the beginning of 2013," according to a press release from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The overall consumer confidence indicator rose by 0.9 points between August and September to minus 24.6, said the INE.
The increase in consumer confidence in Portugal was driven by improved consumer opinion of the outlook for the Portuguese economy as well as for savings and the financial situation in Portuguese households.
Despite these improvements the outlook for unemployment made a negative contribution to the figures, the INE said.
