FedEx Freight to increase fuel surcharge 3pc in June

May.13--FEDEX Freight is to raise its fuel surcharge by three per cent in June to order to counteract increasing fuel prices up by the same percentage.

The impact of severe US winter storms and spiralling fuel prices has resulted in the parent company's lower-than-expected quarterly profit which led to the downgrading of its full-year forecast in March.

Its FedEx Ground unit will introduce dimensional weight pricing to all packages measuring three cubic feet or greater as of January 2015 also. It delivers small packages to the US and Canada, and low-weight packages through a partnership with the US Postal Service.

Its rival domestic package operator UPS raised its shipping rates for its freight units in March.
